Niger state government has promised to pioneer a diversion from conventional fuel to renewable energy and invest in green economy through specific policies tailored towards developing the sector to better the lives of residents and Nigeria.

Niger state governor Umar Bago said this today during the state green economy summit, calling on stakeholders in the field to rally round and work out a road map and policy frame works to provide the state with direction in the area.

Earlier, Borno state governor, Babangana Zulum who was a guest at the summit noted that his state has already kick-started process of executing projects in line with harnessing the riches of green economy.

On his part, former head of state, Abdulsalam Abubakar, stated that the world is shifting attention to green economy and Nigeria as an entity must key into the reality to establish a solid foundation for transition and economic development.
